Will everything be all different with SilverFast 8?

No, not really! As you can on the screenshots at the right, the graphical user interface has been completely revised for SilverFast 8. This is why everything naturally looks different and perhaps also a little bit strange at first glance. But many of these changes were made to bring substantial simplifications in operating SilverFast. You will soon experience it yourself. All important features you know from your version of SilverFast are also available in SilverFast 8. In addition, new highlights, which make scanning and image optimization even more easy, have been implemented. In the following, click on images to enlarge them.

  • Image 2: The vertical tool bar is still at its place in SilverFast 8. For clarity, the tool icons have been enlarged and labeled. All tools and filters can be directly accessed through this vertical tool bar and the horizontal tool bar placed above the large preview window.
  • Where SilverFast 6 allowed to open just a single tool dialog at a time, it is possible with SilverFast 8 to use multiple tools simultaneously. The tool dialogs can be freely arranged on the desktop. Tooltips and embedded QuickTime movies help getting familiar with the new tool dialogs.
  • Preview Concept: SilverFast 8 displays an exact preview of the final scan result in its large preview window at any time. Even the results of complex image optimizations, such as infrared-based dust and scratch removal iSRD and unsharp masking USM can be estimated in advance with SilverFast 8. The preview capabilities of SilverFast 6 were limited and there was no preview at all for the Multi-Exposure tool.
  • Image 1: The 1:1 preview is essential for accurately predicting the effect of tools like iSRD, USM. Therefore, SilverFast 6 has just a very small preview window in these tools‘ dialogs. This preview window is no longer available in SilverFast 8, but instead …
